Liver transplantation (LT) is the preferred treatment in patients with end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. An effective immunosuppressive regimen is essential to reduce graft loss due to acute or chronic rejection. However, too much immunosuppression could cause complications and several causes of death in transplant recipients such as infections, renal failure, malignancies and cardiovascular events. In this thesis, we aimed to optimize drug therapy for liver transplant recipients in order to improve patient outcomes.
