De KNMP benadrukt het belang van point-of-care testing voor de farmaceutische patiëntenzorg. Daartoe stelde de KNMP, samen met andere landen, het statement ‘Policy on the role of pharmacy professionals on point-of-care testing’ vast op het wereldcongres voor apothekers van de International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). In het statement ligt de nadruk op het belang van labwaarden om goede farmaceutische zorg te kunnen leveren. De KNMP zet zich er al langer voor in om alle labwaarden die relevant zijn voor farmaceutische zorg uit te wisselen, zodat apothekers die kunnen betrekken bij de medicatiebewaking.
Tijdens het FIP-congres, dat van 18 tot en met 22 september plaatsvond met als thema ‘Pharmacy united in the recovery of health care’, werd een tweetal FIP-statements vastgesteld. Naast het statement over point-of-care testing was er ook aandacht voor continue scholing. Dat is opgenomen in de ‘Policy on Continuing Professional Development’. Apothekers in Nederland hebben een kwalitatief goed georganiseerde herregistratietraject. Op het internationale podium staan de Nederlandse apothekers aan de top. Voorts zijn tijdens het FIP-congres posters door KNMP-medewerkers gepresenteerd over verschillende farmaceutisch inhoudelijke onderwerpen.
